Custom websites and web apps

Built here, with the same tools and by the same person who automates the processes. No bought themes, and the code belongs to whoever pays for it from day one.

What we build

Two things built with the same tools

A website is there to be seen: it shows what the business does, turns up in Google and brings in enquiries. A web app is there to be worked in: it has user accounts, it keeps data you look at later, and each person sees what concerns them.

The question that decides which is which is a simple one: do you need to be seen, or do you need someone to work inside it? Plenty of businesses need both and do not have to decide yet — the site in front, the application behind it.

Everything is built custom. We do not buy themes or templates and swap out the photographs and the name, and the code belongs to whoever paid for it from the first day.

How it runs

From the first conversation to what goes live

No stage starts before the one before it is closed.

  1. Conversation

About the business, about what the thing has to do, and about the material that already exists. The quote comes out of this — and so does the decision about whether you need a website, an application, or both.

  2. Quote

The price of the project, stated in full before anything gets built. No estimates that grow along the way.

  3. Build

With progress checks along the way, so there are no surprises at the end. The text can be yours or ours: either way it is included in the price.

  4. Going live

It goes up, with the domain in your company's name and the credentials handed over. If one day you want to leave, you take everything and there is no exit fee.

Once it is live

Website maintenance, if you want it

Hosting and domain included, security and dependency updates every month, backups with history, and the day-to-day content changes — text, prices, images, a new page in the site's own design. One month minimum term, and the monthly figure is quoted with the project rather than read off a list: a brochure site and an application with accounts in it are not the same thing to look after.

It is optional. If you would rather handle it in-house you take the code and the credentials, and we tell you what needs watching. What we will not do is hand over a website and disappear without saying it needs someone.

This is not the same as the operations plans for process automation, which are on another page and cover something else: watching the accuracy of a process that reads documents. They are two different services with different prices.

Conversations we have already had

Two things we are told almost every time

“It is expensive.”

The next question is always the same: expensive compared with what. What is on the other side of the price is something built around the business, not a bought template with the photographs swapped out. It is also the person you talk to being the person who builds it — no intermediaries and nothing passed from hand to hand.

“We already have a website. Is it worth rebuilding?”

Often not. If what you have works, shows up on Google and is no trouble to change, rebuilding is money spent to stand still. It is worth it when there is a cost being paid every month: nobody can change a line of text without asking someone, the site is slow or does not read well on a phone, or you need something it cannot do — user accounts, a form that writes into another system. We say which of the two it is before there is a quote.

And there is a middle ground people forget: a site can need no changes at all and still need someone tending it — security updates, backups, the domain renewing on time. That stands on its own, with no rebuild attached.
